Solon slams US government’s interference and support for GMA’s illegitimate, corrupt presidency

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today slammed US embassy in the Philippines charge d’affaires Joseph Mussomeli’s insulting analysis regarding the intensifying political crisis caused by the electoral fraud perpetrated by Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He said that the government that Mussomeli represents is taking a keen interest in the developments in the country’s political atmosphere because of the US’ economic investments.

“The Philippines is the US most neglected and abused ally of the US in the Asia-Pacific region, and its continuing interference in the country is one of the biggest factors keeping the country backward and the people poor,” he said. “The US continues to back Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo because she remains one of the staunchest pro-US puppet presidents.”

Beltran said that Musommelli’s assessment that Macapagal-Arroyo has nothing to fear from the military was an interesting and revealing comment. “The US is most likely taking action and giving direction through former president Fidel V. Ramos, a well-known Amboy. Ramos is also using his clout and influence over the Armed Forces of the Philippines to pacify the restive ranks of young officers and rank-and-file,” he said.

“Musommelli and the US govenrment’s main worries are not so much for Mrs. Arroyo, but for the possible repercussions of a sudden change of admnistration and the impact on the US’ business and military interests in the Philippines,” he said. “The US wants to make sure that if and when Mrs. Arroyo is replaced, it will be by someone who also carries the US’ best interests at heart and ahead of considerations for the Filipino people’s welfare.”

“The US should keep out of Philippine political and economic affairs. It’s the main war-monger in the world, and its relentless prodding that the Philippine govenrment pass an anti-terrorism law is proof of this. All the US wants to ensure that the Philippines remains a neo-colony, run by a govenrment loyal to American business and military interests. There is a serious and immediate need to rethink and restructure the country’s foreign policy and trade relations especially with abusive and exploiative governments such as the US. Among the most compelling reasons there are to demand GMA’s impeachment and ouster are her shameless subservience to US dictates and her reliance on US support to prop her corrupt and illegitimate admnistration.”#
