No forgiveness or reconciliation without justice; political crisis can only be settled upon removal of Macapagal-Arroyo from Malacanang
Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today said that Mrs. Macapagal-Arroyo is clearly trying to appear magnanimous in the attempt to pacify the public and woo it into forgiving her corruption and electoral fraud. He said that nothing has been forgiven and certainly nothing is forgotten, regardless of Mrs. Arroyo’s projection that she is willing and prepared to make peace with her critics.
“Like ousted strongman Ferdinand Marcos and members of his surviving family, Pres. Arroyo refuses to admit and acknowledge that she has committed countless violations against the Filipino people. She is offering to make peace when she has not been admitted her transgressions in office. There can be no peace without justice, and the protests against Mrs. Arroyo will not stop until the goal is achieved, that of removing her from Malacanang,” he said.
He said that the executive's offers of peace and reconciliation should be rejected outright. He said that she has not been able to explain or account for herself on any of the charges against her. “the economy has been on a nose-dive even before the tape scandal erupted, and her immediate efamily has long been accused of various corrupt activities. All these have already come to a head, and there’s no other solution to this political crisis but to remove Macapagal-Arroyo from Malacanang.”
Beltran said that it was sickening the way Mrs. Arroyo was pretending to be more personable and forgiving. “It’s all just a ploy – a tactic at melting the hearts of the unforgiving public much angered by her corruption, electoral fraud and relentless attacks against the economic welfare of the majority. She’s only adding insult to serious injury by trying to make peace with critics. The country’s political atmosphere will continue to be turbulent as long as Mrs. Arroyo is in office. She may be issuing calls for peace, but what she refuse to admit is that she is the main cause of the problems besetting the country. Her brand of corrupt politics and administration, her arrogance at proclaiming her administration’s non-existent success at helping improve the lives of millions of impoverished Filipinos," he said.
Finally, the veteran labor leader said that former president Corazon Aquino should be insulted at the tack Mrs. Arroyo was taking. He said that Mrs. Arroyo was trying to project the former president as clearly misled and mistaken in calling for her resignation. “Former president Aquino should not back down from her call for Mrs. Arroyo’s resignation. If anything, the former president should even be more vocal against the headstrong and arrogant yet illegitimate incumbent,” he said.
