Solon dares Exec. Sec, Ermita to reveal Order of Battle List; says threats against civilians and non-combatants to ricochet against already beleaguered Arroyo government

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today sounded the alarm for various leaders of militant and progressive people’s organizations and party-lists as Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita threatens to arrest supposed communist leaders who have already surfaced and taken roles in the legal and democratic mass movement. Beltran said that Anakpawis National Political Party’s own vice-chairman Rafael Baylosis is a consultant of the National Democratic Front (NDF) on comprehensive socio-economic issues as contained in the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CAHRIHL).

Baylosis was a former political prisoner under the Marcos dictatorship and was released only in 1995. After his release he became fully involved in the legal mass movement, becoming political and internal affairs secretary of the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) labor center and since January 2004 Anakpawis party-list’s vice-chairman.

“Is Ermita threatening to arrest even civilians and non-combatants who are involved in the stalled peace talks? We demand that Ermita cease and desist from issuing these all-encompassing threats. The suspension of the peace negotiations between the NDF and the Macapagal-Arroyo administration is not surprising given that the Arroyo government has already taken to killing mass activists left and right, and has refused to negotiate on crucial issues concerning political and economic policy changes. Now the Arroyo government through Ermita is threatening to conduct mass arrests. We will not stand by and allow any more civilian members or leaders of open and legal mass organizations to be arrested or worse, assassinated upon orders of the Arroyo government,” he said.

Beltran dared Ermita to release the AFP’s targets among the supposed leaders and members of the NDF. “Should any violence or any kind of harm befall any of the leaders of progressive party-lists and militant people’s organizations, Ermita and Pres. Arroyo will be made to take immediate and direct responsibility. Human rights activists, labor and peasant leaders as well as leaders of church and youth groups have the same civil and human rights as ordinary civilians.”#
