FREE KA BEL MOVEMENT
An alliance for the immediate release of Anakpawis Representative Crispin B. Beltran, true leader of the Filipino people
MEDIA ADVISORY
April 23, 2005
Attention: QC and Crame beats
Despite being 73 years old, Anakpawis Congressman Crispin "Ka Bel" Beltran has been illegally arrested and jailed by the Philippine National Police (PNP) since February 25, 2006, on fabricated and malicious charges. This has contributed to the precarious deterioration of his health, necessitating his detention at the PNP General Hospital since March 2. Since then, Beltran's supporters and lawyers have called for Ka Bel's release on humanitarian grounds while the legal battle for Congressman Beltran's liberty drags on.
On April 17, Judge Jenny Lind Aldecoa-Delorino of the the Makati Regional Trial Court (MRTC) Branch 137 approved Congressman Beltran's transfer to a hospital of his choice. Beltran's lawyers filed their request the following day for Beltran's transfer to the Philippine Heart CenterĀ¬ (PHC) along East Avenue, Quezon City. This request is expected to be approved tomorrow morning by the MRTC and forwarded to the PNP for implementation immediately after.
As a gesture of vigilance and support, workers and migrants from the FREE KA BEL MOVEMENT (FKBM) will peacefully assemble tomorrow, April 24 (Monday), in front of Camp Crame, to await Ka Bel's expected transfer to the PHC.
