"Pathetic, stupid" solon says of GMA's demand to oil cartels

Anakpawis party-list Representative Rafael Mariano today described as "pathetic and stupid" Malacanang's so-called demand to oil firms to submit a "written explanation" on why they raised prices.

Mariano said "the Filipino people hardly struggle just to keep afloat from skyrocketing oil prices and all Ms Arroyo can do is ask oil cartels for a written explanation."

"Ms Arroyo's so-called demand to oil firms is pathetic and, in fact, stupid," Mariano stressed.

The militant lawmaker said that "aside from oil industry deregulation law, oil cartels have an armory of unjust, unreasonable and unacceptable excuses to raise petroleum prices."

"Ms Arroyo should stop acting that she has nothing to do with the current oil price hikes. Her statement is no less than a 'fire extinguisher' to the people's fury against oil price increases," Mariano said.

Mariano also assailed energy officials as mere public relations machinery of oil cartels.

"Instead of protecting Filipino consumers and the people from the burdensome impacts of oil prices increases, the Department of Energy are the ones standing up to justify oil price hikes," Mariano said.

The party-list lawmaker reiterated calls to junk the oil deregulation law calling it as the main culprit behind the seemingly unstoppable oil price hikes.

Mariano, along with fellow Anakpawis party-list Representative Crispin Beltran, jointly authored House Bill 1065 seeking to repeal "The Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Law." #
