News Release October 26, 2005

Solon says corrupt and illegitimate president already shaking in her boots over People’s Court

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today expressed full support for the Citizens’ Congress for Truth and Accountability (CCAT) and said that for all of the derision and attacks it will without doubt receive from Malacanang and its supporters, the very establishment of the CCAT is already a blow against the corrupt and illegitimate presidency.

“Even now, Macapagal-Arroyo is shaking in her petite boots and afraid of what be revealed and exposed during the CCAT investigations and trial. The Filipino people will welcome the CCAT’s efforts to discuss and deliberate on the various charges against Macapagal-Arroyo which were unjustly dismissed along with the infamous junking of the impeachment complaint in Congress. Filipinos have been waiting long for the full details of the surrounding the various charges and accusations against Macapagal-Arroyo, and they were denied the right to now when Arroyo’s allies in the house machinated to throw out the impeachment complaint against her without the charges being properly discussed,” he said.

“The CCAT will provide the venue for the truth to come out. Since Macapagal-Arroyo’s allies have shut the doors of Congress which is the supposed legal venue for investigations, the truth will find other ways to be revealed. The CCAT is 2000% more credible that the Constitutional Commission Arroyo has formed.”

The veteran labor leader turned legislator said that the Filipino people’s righteous anger against the corrupt and anti-poor government will be substantiated and justified during the conduct of the CCAT. “The CCAT will be led and participated in by highly credible legal minds, leaders of people’s groups, and anti-corruption advocates. It will not be easy for Macapagal-Arroyo and her team of spin doctors to easily undermine the CCAT’s credibility, much less tear the Filipino people’s attention from the proceedings – especially when the shocking and outrageous details of Mrs. Arroyo’s corrupt doings begin to be exposed,’ he said.

“Macapagal-Arroyo is not safe. She will not recover from this political crisis and the only acceptable conclusion to this crisis is her removal from office. Her allies and various spokespersons can say all they want and do their worst, but they will not be able to save Macapagal-Arroyo from being ousted,’ he said. #
