SC justices who upheld EVAT law legality should be publicly pilloried - Rep. Beltran

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today said that the Macapagal-Arrroyo government should spare the Filipino people from more of its lies and deceptions and put away all plans to launch an information dissemination campaign regarding the supposed benefits of the new expanded value-added tax.

"Macapagal-Arroyo, her so-called economic experts and various spokespersons can explain all they want about the EVAT but the fact remains that it's an immoral imposition -- a tax measure that will worsen the poverty of most Filipinos. What will they peddle -- more lies? The Supreme Court's final decision on the matter is a vicious attack against the economic well-being of the people, and the Justices who upheld this decision deserve to be publicly pilloried," he said. "What they did is an act of betrayal against the Filipino people."

"Most Filipinos are already ill-equipped to deal with the continously rising costs of living. Adequate health, housing and healthcare services for the most part is beyond the means of the poor. Adding the EVAT to their already considerable burdens is an atrocious crime on the part of this callous government."

The veteran labor leader slammed the government , saying that its heartlessness was without end. "It has never ever listened to reason. Macapagal-Arroyo's government has done very little to nothing to alleviate the poverty of the woriking people, but done much to undermine and attack their welfare. The demand of rank and file government employees and private sector employees for salary and wage increases have been treated with insulting scorn and indifference, yet Malacanang has the gall to defend this new tax imposition like it is what will save the day for the working people. Such twisted logic, such demented rationalization," he said.

Beltran said that there were really no ifs and buts about it - "Macapagal-Arroyo must go and the tax measures her illegitimate and immoral administration have crafted should be junked along with her. When she is attacking the civil, political and human rights of her constituency using increasingly fascistic policies such as the calibrated preemptive response (CPR), she's cutting off the life blood of Filipinos by imposing new tax measures on them," he said. "Malacanang is truly pushing Filipinos to take to the streets and demand her ouster. To allow Macapagal-Arroyo to remain in office is akin to committing mass suicide." #
