Filipinos will retaliate against GMA for imposing EVAT; econ gobbledygook re growth mean nothing to the poor

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today said that the implementation of the new expanded value-added tax law will serve as the final nail on the coffin of the Macapagal-Arroyo administration. He said that for all the brave and confident posturings of the illegitimate president and the arrogance declarations of her various spokespersons, the political crisis remains and continues to intensify.

"It's only just a matter of time before this admnistration is kicked out. Time is running out for Macapagal-Arroyo-- even its allies are turning their backs on her and calling on her to either cut her term her term short or resign outright. The impact of the EVAT will be so severe against the economic welfare of Filipinos, that they will surely retaliate by joining the protests denouncing her and demanding her removal from office."

"With the implementation of the EVAT, Macapagal-Arroyo seals her own fate. She's unwittingly encouraging the protests directed against her and pushing Filipinos out into the streets in outrage against her corruption and her relentless undermining of the economic welfare of the poor majority," he said. "There's no way that Filipinos will tolerate more regressive taxes and higher increases in the already exorbitant electricity rates and other social services."

"The technical goobledygook that she and her economic advisers are spouting, their claims that there's been economic growth in the last few months mean nothing to most Filipinos. It's all in the head of Macapagal-Arroyo, a twisted series of numbers and figures that do not translate into anything concretely beneficial for the Filipino people."

Beltran said that Macapagal-Arroyo's tough posturing will end soon enough as the protests against her continue and influential political and religious leaders turn against her and join the ranks of those calling for her resignation.

"She is not fooling anyone. Even if she chooses to think that she has weathered the political crisis and survived it, the developments in the coming days and weeks will expose her delusions. The EVAT is yet another unforgivable crime against the Filipino people, majority of whom are long-disgusted with her and her failure to implement any genuine economic program or reforms that will improve the quality of life of the poor."#
