NR0805:Malacanang deliberately hiding Garci from Congress
From the Office of Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran
News Release August 5, 2005
Garcilliano’s testimony crucial to impeachment investigations, Malacanang deliberately keeping him away from Congress
Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today said Malacanang’s assertion that Comelec commissioner Virgilio Garcilliano’s testimony was not necessary to the impeachment complaint investigations was a sign that Malacanang was afraid of what Garcilliano might say. “It’s in the interest of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that Commissioner Garcilliano be never found. The moment Garcilliano steps into the congressional room to testify, he will not be able to help but spill the beans on his boss and electoral fraud accomplice Mrs. Arroyo,” he said.
Beltran said that without doubt Malacanang and its network was working 24-7 to ensure that Garcilliano is not found. “Otherwise, they would have allowed Garcilliano to come out into the open and issue statements directly to the public, whether on his own defense or in the defense of Mrs. Arroyo,” he said. “In this case, flight is a sure sign of guilt; and Garcilliano is hiding with the full blessing from and assistance of Malacanang. When he opens his mouth, the risk that he might either perjure himself or completely expose Mrs. Arroyo is very great.”
The veteran labor leader turned lawmaker said that Comelec Commissioner Benjamin Abalos will not be able to shake off allegations that the Comelec is aware of Garcilliano’s whereabouts. “Up to now Garcilliano is an employee of the Comelec, and it’s most unorthodox if his immediate higher ups and employers do not know where he is,’ he pointed out,
“We urge the commissioners of Comelec especially Commissioner Abalos to reveal what they know of Garcilliano’s whereabouts and help clear the air regarding Garcilliano’s role in the massive electoral fraud that took place in the May 2004 polls. The Comelec’s reputation is also at stake here,” he said.#
