Voters must throw a monkey wrench into the bowels of the Macapagal-Arroyo fraud machinery and sabotage its operation

Anakpawis Representative and political detainee today said that even if the Macapagal-Arroyo camp's political machinery were the best in the world, its Team Unity candidates will not still not secure majority of the Filipino people's votes this May.

"It's not so much a campaign or political machinery that the Macapagal-Arroyo has, but a fraud-generating machine. The credible exercise of the supposedly democratic process of elections is not possible under the Macapagal-Arroyo administration. Even as it continues to publicly deny and dispute the surveys that indicate the poor chances of its Team Unity candidates securing victory, privately the Arroyo camp has already begun to prepare measures that will undermine the results of the polls. The continuing presence of the troops of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in the urban centers and residential communities can also be taken as part of these efforts. As in May 2004, the AFP was mobilized to ensure the security of the polling precincts but most likely what they protected were those who switched ballots, election returns, and other electoral paraphernalia," he said.

"There will be hell to pay if Team Unity secures a majority victory because everyone knows the impossibility of this. Team Unity can only win against the Genuine Opposition with the use of massive fraud including the disenfranchisement of millions of voters. The same explanation goes for the chances of the Arroyo administration's party-lists winning big against the progressive party-lists Bayan Muna, Anakpawis and Gabriela Women's Party and their sister party-lists Kabataan Party and Suara Bangsa Moro."

The detained activist lawmaker said that Filipinos must throw a monkey wrench into the bowels of the Macapagal-Arroyo fraud machinery and sabotage its operation. "There is no other way to protect the conduct and results of the May elections than to maintain the strictest vigilance against all of the government's attempts to initiate fraud. We cannot have a repeat of the May 2004 polls wherein a cheater ascended to power and was shamed into admitting it yet still refused to step down. The winnability of the candidates of Team Unity are inevitably connected to the popularity of the Macapagal-Arroyo, and for the longest time she has been getting the worse negative ratings," he said.

"Pres. Arroyo must be rudely awakened from her delusions that she and her candidates are loved and supported by the Filipino people or that this support will transform into votes come May. Short of threatening each and every single voter, Filipinos will not give Macapagal-Arroyo's Team Unity a landslide victory, not even a minor soil erosion of victory."

Beltran said that Macapagal-Arroyo has not only failed but betrayed her mandate as president. "She already stole the office, the least she could have done is used her stolen powers to implement genuine economic reforms that will give direct and concrete benefit to the poor and working people such as employment, higher wages, and lower costs of basic social services. Her candidates in Team Unity will no different, there is no hope to be had from supporting her slate," he concluded.#
