GMA is indeed the best person to lead the country into pits of poverty and
disaster if she stays until 2010 or beyond, Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran
today said in response to the President's claims last Monday, adding that
Pres. Arroyo's boasts are "bordering on the delusional and the
hallucinatory".

"That claims of hers is absolutely out of touch with reality. GMA is indeed
the best person to lead the country…into infinite hardship and political
turmoil. What else can Pres. Arroyo show to prove her past five years of
so-called excellent governance? Trillions worth of foreign debt, surpassing
the Marcos, Ramos, Aquino, and Estrada administrations' borrowing rates?
Record-high levels of severe hunger, with one in three Filipinos already
scrimping on food? Internationally-condemned killings of hundreds of
activists, civilians, journalists, lawyers, human rights workers, and
clergy? Corruption scandals swarming around the Palace like flies over a
carcass? The cover-up of blatant electoral fraud in her favour?" the
militant solon said.

"Pres. Arroyo is hallucinating if she thinks that her stay in the Palace is
doing anything good for the Filipino people. Like a horse, she is wearing
blinders that prohibit her to see anything beyond her road to disaster and
hardship for the masses," he added.

'Tomorrow, at the EDSA 1 commemorative rally, we will be living up to the
spirit of People Power by invigorating the call for the ouster of Pres.
Arroyo, who is on her way to becoming the worst President so far in recent
Philippine history," Beltran said.

Beltan also reiterated the call for the institution of a transition
governing council composed of representatives from the forces involved in
GMA's ouster and from basic societal sectors as a "more viable alternative
form of temporary governance, rather than another dubious Constitutional
succession or the damning Charter Change proposal of Pres. Arroyo's allies".

"We have to look beyond the shifts in political figures that EDSAs made
possible, and finally call for a transition government that is capable for
instituting societal reforms that have long been clamoured for by our
workers, peasants, youth, national minorities, fisherfolk, and urban poor,"
Beltran ended. ###
