Malacanang calling investigations into Santiago’s rumor outrageous given that it has thrown out more serious and well-founded charges of corruption and electoral fraud against PGMA

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today said that it was an outrage that Malacanang is now trying to turn the tables and calling for investigations into the allegations that there is a plot to overthrow incumbent president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo via coup de etat, and that the ringleaders are former president Corazon Aquino and senate president Franklin Drilon. According to senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Mrs. Aquino and Mr. Drilon are plotting to overthrow Arroyo and if that fails, have her assassinated.

“These allegations are so ludicrous that they shouldn’t be paid attention to. It’s outrageous that Justice secretary Raul Gonzales seems keen on moving heaven and earth to get to the bottom of this rumor, when he and every other spokesperson and defender of the president were so determined to quash the more credible charges against Mrs. Arroyo regarding electoral fraud and numerous counts of corruption,” he said.

“The various evidence pointing towards Mrs. Arroyo’s guilt on the charges of cheating and corruption have been meticulously prepared and ready for full investigation, but Malacanang’s guard dogs have refused to have them even discussed. Now Gonzales is pulling out all the stops to investigate a mere rumor generated by Sen. Santiago? This is preposterous.”

The veteran labor leader turned legislator said that Sen. Santiago should call for senate investigations against Sen. Drilon and Mrs. Aquino if she has the proof and evidence that the two are indeed in cahoots to overthrow and assassinate the illegitimate and corrupt president of the republic. “Otherwise Sen. Santiago should retract her statement and issue a public apology to both Mrs. Aquino and Sen. Drilon. It’s clear that in her defense of Mrs. Arroyo, Sen. Santiago will stop at nothing including spinning ludicrous tales,” he said.#

Masterminds of Bali attacks alleged to be from US government; attacks launched to pressure governments to impose anti-terror laws

In the meantime, the veteran labor leader turned legislator once more declared his strong opposition to Malacanang’s anti-terrorism bill being hurried through Congress. Beltran said that Malacanang’s rising panic over the relentless protests directed against the illegitimate presidency is what’s fuelling efforts to railroad the said draconian measure.

“Now they’re using the attacks in Bali, Indonesia to justify the implementation of an anti-terror bill. Pro-anti-terror bill proponents especially the heads of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are determined to ignore all sensible and rational arguments against the anti-terror bill which expose the greater dangers which come with the passage of such a law. The reports that these terrorist attacks in Indonesia and neighboring countries are actually masterminded by operatives of the US government with the goal of strait-arming government into supporting the US’ chauvinist and bigoted campaign against terrorism,” he said.

“An anti-terror law as implemented by the forces of the PNP and AFP would be a vicious weapon of political repression and brutality. The PNP and the AFP with their bloody records of countless human rights violations cannot and should not be given yet another weapon to wield against the Filipino people and further attacks their civil, democratic and human rights. There is no justifying the passage of such a draconian law. In the hands of the Arroyo administration, an anti-terror bill will be directed not so much against terrorists as defined by broadly-accepted international law, but against the critics of the corrupt and illegitimate presidency,” he concluded.#
