Philippines' chairing of APEC Anti-terror task force a dubious honor and
should be refused

Anakpawis Representative Crispin Beltran today that the Philippine government
should respectfully but firmly refuse to chair the Asia-Pacific Economic
Cooperation (APEC) Counter-Terrorism Task Force.
He said that the country's election to the position was not at an honor at
all. "It only re-affirms the Philippine government's shameless subservience to
US' anti-humanity and immoral campaign against other sovereign nations and their
peoples. It's a badge of dishonor, and it puts the Philippines in even greater
danger as a target of attacks from the US government's avowed enemies," he
said.

The election of the Philippines to chair the APEC's anti-terror task force was
more than likely pushed by Washington. Take it as a sign that US Pres. Bush is
giving Pres. Arroyo another chance to prove her allegiance to his government
and its agenda in the Philippines. Now, knowing Pres. Arroyo's politics, she is
certain to fall over herself t o make sure that Bush is proven correct,
nevermind going against the national interest and putting the country and the
Filipino people's security at risk," he said.

He also said that the US continues to push the Philippines into agreeing to hold
an endless series of Balikatan exercises in the country, and the actions and
movement of US troops remain unchecked. "Malacanang is no doubt eager to prove
itself an ally and will turn its head from any and all abuses of the US troops
and their violations of Philippine and international humanitarian laws," he
said.

Beltran said that chairing the committee will also mean that the Philippine
government will also be leading other Asian governments in propagating the US'
line against terror, which mostly means war against all other nations
insisting on their own sovereignty and freedom from the US' economic,
political and military domination and interference.

"The Philippines' ties with the US has not brought the Philippine economic
prosperity or political independence. Relations between the governments of
these two countries have always been biased against the Philippines, while
extremely favorable to the US' hegemonic agenda. Now, with this new position
in APE C, Pres. Arroyo will be spreading more US propaganda and acting as
spokesperson for the counter-terror campaign in other nations. This is hardly
something Filipinos can be proud of," he concluded.#

Korea news inDynamic korea

About 786 entrepreneurs and executives of leading businesses worldwide will flock to South Korea's second biggest city of Busan to take part in one of the world's biggest business fairs Nov. 17-19.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2005 will be the largest-ever in APEC history in terms of the number of business participants.

The gathering is also the most prestigious annual event in terms of providing a unique opportunity for business leaders from the Asia-Pacific rim to hear presentations about economic and trade issues from APEC economic leaders, economists, policymakers and fellow business leaders.

Although Shanghai attracted 800 participants in 2001, Chinese entrepreneurs accounted for nearly half of the attendees. The previous eight APEC forums attracted less than 650 businessmen.

Ten heads of states, including Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Russian President Vladimir V. Putin and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, will join this year's CEO Summit seminar sessions.

The meeting, which will comprise of 10 plenary seminar sessions and seven special sessions, will explore the theme of ``Entrepreneurship and Prosperity: Building a Successful Partnership in the Asia-Pacific Region.'

Issues to be addressed at the sessions include global energy challenges, global competitiveness in a borderless economy, natural disasters and global responsibility, information communication technology (ICT) and challenges for globalization and borderless free trade.

The summit will also provide an unmatched opportunity to reinforce business networking among business leaders in the region.

Star entrepreneurs to attend the meeting include Citigroup senior vice chairman William R. Rhodes, AIG executive vice chairman and COO Donald P. Kanak, Gale International chairman Stanley Gale, Gale International president and CEO John B. Hynes III, DHL Logistics CEO Frank Appel and Li & Fung Group chairman Victor Fung.

Representatives of leading information technology (IT) companies participating in the event include Microsoft senior vice president and CTO Craig Mundie, Sybase chairman and CEO John Chen, Alibaba.com chairman and CEO Jack Ma and China Unicom president Shang Bing.

Invitees from prominent energy firms and oil refineries include Russian oil heavyweight Gazprom chairman Alexey Miller, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) president Chengyu Fu and BPMIGAS chairman Kardaya Warnika.

Also on the list are SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won, SK Telecom president Kim Shin-bae, Samsung Electronics president of semiconductor business Hwang Chang-gyu, KT Corp. executive vice president Yoon Jong-lok, Korean Air chairman Cho Yang-ho, Daesung Group chairman Kim Young-hoon and GM Daewoo Auto & Technology president Nick Reilly.
